The development of bioeconomics in Russia was discussed at the WEF
On September 3, Nikita Marchenkov, Chairman of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in the Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, spoke about the importance of megaprojects for the development of the Far East at the session of the Eastern Economic Forum – 2025 (WEF-2025).
As part of the discussion, Sergey Zvonarev, Deputy head of the Department of scientific project support at the Kurchatov Institute's Megaclass, moderator of the session, asked Marchenkov about his experience in solving problems using mega-installations and ways to transfer this experience to the Far East.
Marchenkov stressed that Russia was one of the first countries to actively develop nature-like technologies. According to him, bioeconomics is part of the national projects of technological leadership of the Russian Federation. He noted that programs such as the development of megascience facilities and genetic technologies play a key role in the implementation of the bioeconomy project.
"Megascience installations allow you to see how wildlife works. And genetic methods, genetic editing, and structural biology make it possible to operate with these living systems. And these two things together make it possible to build the very bioeconomy," he said at the session "Contribution of megaprojects to the development of the Far East."
Marchenkov also spoke about the construction of a complex of mega-installations in Russia using the example of the Siberian Ring Photon Source (SKIF) in Novosibirsk. According to him, the installation will become a center of high technology and science, attracting scientific communities and industrial companies.
"This [SKIF] is really becoming a center for the crystallization of high science and technology in the region, which is really extremely important," Marchenkov added.
He stressed that the contribution to these projects requires significant government investments, and the task of scientific organizations is to coordinate programs so that each installation has its own specifics and a scientific program focused on the needs of the region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on August 22 that no one would be able to destroy the global scientific community. The Russian leader stressed that science, along with sports and art, is one of those areas that are designed to unite people around the world. According to him, Russian scientists, despite everything, continue to cooperate with experts from European countries in order to make a joint contribution to the development of the scientific community.
