Researchers from Beijing have created a washing machine that can work in space conditions. This was reported on September 2 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper.

One of the problems astronauts face is the inability to wash dirty clothes. As a result, it became one of the largest expense items for space flights, the publication stated.

"Researchers from Beijing have proposed a solution: a compact detergent—free washing machine that cleans clothes using fog and ozone, using almost no water — a limited resource in space," SCMP reports.

The developers said that the next step will be to create a working prototype in which they can increase the efficiency of the machine by increasing its load capacity and further reducing water consumption.

Earlier, on August 5, it was reported that astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) would try brewing beer in space for the first time as part of an experiment. This project was initiated by the Starbase Brewery brewing company.
