- The Mountaineering Federation announced the termination of the operation to rescue Nagovitsina
The rescue operation of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina, stuck on Victory Peak, has been stopped. This was announced on September 2 by the chairman of the Kyrgyz Mountaineering Federation, Eduard Kubatov, on the Instagram social network (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
"Unfortunately, we are forced to state the absence of vital signs of Natalia Nagovitsina. All rescue operations have been stopped, and we need to acknowledge this sad fact for all of us," he wrote in a message.
According to Kubatov, there has not been a single successful rescue operation at an altitude of 7.2 thousand meters in the history of Victory Peak.
Earlier in the day, Russian TV presenter and blogger Victoria Bonya posted a video from a drone, which, according to her, captures the body of a Russian climber stuck on a peak. The footage shows that the climber's tent is closed, and there are no signs of a woman's life inside.
The fact that the Russian woman was stuck at the Peak of Victory became known on August 19. She broke her leg during the descent and stayed at altitude for several weeks. In the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, after Dmitry Grekov, the head of the mountaineering base camp, announced the completion of the rescue operation on August 23, Nagovitsina was declared missing on August 27.
