In Russia, the demand for tablets and smartphones dropped before the start of the school year

In August 2025, 445.6 thousand smartphones and 81.1 thousand tablets worth 11.7 billion and 1.2 billion were purchased on the largest Russian marketplaces. This indicator unexpectedly fell before September 1, as in previous years, Russians actively bought electronics during the same period. This was reported on August 1 by the newspaper Vedomosti with reference to the MPSTATS analytics service.

So, compared to last year, the indicator fell by 29% in units and by 26% in monetary terms. In addition, a representative of Marvel Distribution confirmed that the demand for electronics is not growing so much during the preparation for the new academic year.

In turn, Fintech Lab analyst Sergey Vilyanov suggested that such a decrease in the indicator may be due to high loan rates, which is why technology has become inaccessible to many families, while installment marketing does not solve this problem.

On August 23, economist Alexander Razuvaev advised Russians to buy an iPhone before the ruble falls. According to him, this will probably happen by the end of 2025.
