Every second Russian is ready to actively use alternative payment methods, subject to bonuses and cashback, as well as security guarantees, according to VTB research on the eve of the WEF-2025, which was reviewed by Izvestia on September 1.

According to the study, the main factor encouraging Russians to use new payment methods are bonus programs and cashback, which are indicated by 60% of respondents. About half of the respondents are ready to use alternative payment methods more actively, provided there are security guarantees.

Alternative methods of non-cash payment are rapidly gaining popularity: 71% of respondents use transfers using the Quick Payment System (SBP), 61% prefer payments using a QR code, and 35% prefer payments using NFC technology.

Almost half of the Russians surveyed make payments through the SBP at least once a week. The largest daily usage is observed in the North Caucasus (25%) and the Far Eastern districts (19%). This method is most often used several times a week in the south (41%), as well as in Moscow and the Moscow Region (38%).

As for QR payments, the majority of respondents also use them several times a week (27%). 13% of the respondents use QR codes every day, and 15% do it several times a month.

In addition, payment using NFC technologies is also becoming increasingly popular.: 12% of respondents use this method daily, and 15% use it several times a week. The largest number of NFC supporters is observed in Moscow (19%) and St. Petersburg (18%).

"The interest of Russians in alternative payment instruments is growing not only in the capital regions, but also throughout the country: users note the convenience and variety of payment options. This shows that the non—cash payment market in Russia continues to evolve and change depending on user preferences," concluded Alexey Okhorzin, Senior Vice President and Head of the Retail Business Products Department at VTB.

Earlier, on April 24, a developer of technologies to combat cybercrime at F6 warned Russians about a scheme of fraudsters with contactless money theft in an interview with Izvestia. According to him, malicious software capable of remotely intercepting and transmitting bank card data through NFC modules is developing rapidly.
