The ambassador to China named the number of Chinese cars imported to Russia in a year

In 2024, 1.1 million Chinese cars worth about $21 billion were imported to Russia. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov on August 29.

He noted that Russia is one of the largest buyers of vehicles from China. The total export of Chinese cars has increased sixfold over the past five years to almost 6.5 million units, 31.3 million vehicles have rolled off the assembly lines of 80 local automakers, Morgulov stressed, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The Chinese automotive industry is one of the most dynamically developing industries, which last year took a leading position in terms of contribution to the Chinese economy, providing about 10% of national GDP, the ambassador said. He added that 10-15 years ago it was impossible to imagine that China would become the world's largest supplier of cars.

Earlier, on August 26, it was reported that the average price of a new Chinese car remained virtually unchanged for the year and amounted to 3.1 million rubles in the summer of 2025. However, as experts noted, over the year, individual models of a number of brands have noticeably fallen in price.

On August 25, it became known that only 19% of Russians are ready to buy a new Chinese car from an authorized dealer. 16% of respondents are aiming to buy a new foreign car using alternative imports.
