Karnovich called Shchedrin's death an irreparable loss in world culture.
The death of Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin is an irreparable loss in world culture. Oksana Karnovich, head of the Maya Plisetskaya Museum Apartment, told Izvestia on August 29.
"It is impossible to imagine that Rodion Konstantinovich has left this world. This is a great, irreparable loss. A brilliant composer, a man with a capital letter, wrote his name in golden letters into the world culture, which is now orphaned," she said.
Karnovich noted that November 20 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of his wife, the great ballerina, People's Artist of the USSR Maya Plisetskaya. An evening is being prepared for this date on the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theater, which was so important to Shchedrin.
The death of the composer at the age of 93 became known earlier on the same day. The press service of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia noted that Shchedrin is an epoch in the life of world musical culture. His works have been performed on all stages of the world for many decades.
