- Ukrainian athlete Chernyshova could have taken part in the bombing of the Nord Streams
Ukrainian diver Valeria Chernyshova, who set a record for deep–sea diving in her country, was among the seven suspects in the explosion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in September 2022. This was reported by Die Zeit on August 27.
"The investigators are confident that they have identified the only woman in the team, and she has been described by several witnesses. They suspect Valeria Ch. <...> she holds the Ukrainian women's record for deep-sea diving in a special discipline: 104 m. The pipes of the Nord Stream were located at a depth of about 80 m," the published investigation materials say.
In addition, as the text clarifies, the 40-year-old athlete, who previously trained in diving and claimed that she would "defend her country in any way", abruptly stopped using her social networks a month before the bombing.
Chernyshova, according to the publication, in 2022, independently contacted representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and "with her determination" made the operation possible.
The newspaper Die Zelt reported on the same day that German law enforcement agencies have the names of all the people involved in the pipeline explosion. The Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany, in turn, reported that the sabotage group included a skipper, a coordinator, an explosives expert and four divers, led by Ukrainian Sergey Kuznetsov, who was detained in Italy on August 21.
