Eurotroika has notified Iran of the launch of a mechanism to restore UN sanctions
The European Three countries (Great Britain, France and Germany) have notified Iran of the launch of a 30-day process to restore UN sanctions against Tehran in connection with its nuclear program. This was announced on August 28 by the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi.
"The path chosen by the three European countries, if left unchecked, will have serious consequences for the authority and structure of the UN Security Council," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Araqchi added that Tehran will respond appropriately to the decision of the Eurotroika. According to him, Iran is ready to defend its rights and interests.
"In a letter to the UN Security Council, three European countries noted that over the next 30 days, before sanctions take effect, they are ready to negotiate with Iran on a nuclear agreement that could suspend the process [of resuming sanctions]," the Reuters news agency adds.
The article clarifies that Eurotroika has decided to launch the so-called Snapback mechanism before they have the opportunity to restore sanctions against Tehran in mid-October.
Earlier in the day, the Axios portal reported that the foreign ministers of Germany, Britain and France informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that they would restore all sanctions against Iran. It was noted that by their actions, European countries want to increase economic pressure on Tehran.
On August 26, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that the Islamic Republic and the Eurotroika countries had held another round of negotiations on the nuclear issue in Geneva. He added that Tehran continues to insist on finding a mutually beneficial diplomatic solution. Gharibabadi also noted that it is time for European countries to make the right decision and resolve the nuclear issue with Iran through diplomacy.
