- The AFD urged not to help Kiev until the investigation into the Sevpotok bombing is completed
The German authorities are obliged to suspend support for Ukraine until the circumstances of the explosion of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream—2 gas pipelines are finally clarified. This was stated on August 28 by Markus Fronmaier, a foreign policy expert of the Alternatives for Germany (AfD) faction in the Bundestag.
Fronmaier noted that identifying the suspects in the pipeline sabotage case is an important step. However, in his opinion, the new facts raise serious questions, given that the defendants in the case were able to enter Poland using genuine Ukrainian passports and later return to Ukraine unhindered.
"Such attacks on German infrastructure with the possible support of foreign agencies are unacceptable and pose a threat to our national security," Fronmaier stressed, as quoted by the press service of the AFD faction on the social network X (former. Twitter).
He called on the German Foreign Ministry to summon the Ukrainian ambassador and demand a full clarification of the situation from Kiev. Fronmaier also added that until a full investigation, it is necessary to immediately suspend all support for Ukraine.
On August 21, Italian police officers detained Ukrainian Sergey Kuznetsov on a warrant from Germany in connection with the attack on the Nord Stream gas pipeline in 2022. The German prosecutor's office stressed that the man was allegedly one of the coordinators of the operation. Later it became known that Kuznetsov is the head of the group. According to the case file, no later than September 8, 2022, the Ukrainian and his accomplices boarded the port of Vik (Ryugen Island) on the sailing yacht Andromeda, after which they installed at least four explosive devices on the pipelines. Kuznetsov could face up to 15 years in prison in Germany on suspicion of involvement in sabotage.
On August 28, German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl said that the investigation conducted by German law enforcement agencies could lead to political conclusions. According to him, the authorities have already initiated prosecution measures against the suspects. The trial will take place in Germany.
Leaks on gas pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Bjorn Lund, a representative of the Swedish seismic center, said that two powerful underwater explosions were registered in the area of pipeline leaks at the time of the emergency. After that, traces of explosives were found at the accident site. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the terrorist attacks.
