In July 2025, the average amount of car loans issued in Russia amounted to 1.38 million rubles, which is 4.9% more than a month earlier. This indicator has been growing for the fifth month in a row, the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI) reported on August 28.

Compared to the same period last year, the average amount of car loans issued in July decreased by 6.4% (1.47 million rubles in July 2024).

The largest average amount of car loans issued in the middle of summer among the regions of the Russian Federation was recorded in Moscow (1.85 million rubles), the Moscow Region (1.7 million rubles) and St. Petersburg (1.59 million rubles). The largest increase in this indicator compared to the previous month was recorded in the Tula region (+8.7%), the Udmurt Republic (+8.5%) and the Kemerovo Region (+8.4%).

As noted by Alexey Volkov, NBKI's marketing director, before the transition to growth, the average size of car loans had been declining for seven months in a row after the introduction of macroprudential restrictions. Since March 2025, the indicator has been recovering at a moderate pace against the background of a gradual increase in car loans. Banks continue to issue car loans to borrowers with a good credit history and a debt burden of no more than 50%, he said.

Earlier, on August 26, it was reported that 98.3 thousand car loans were issued in Russia in July 2025. This is 38.3% less than in the middle of last year. However, compared to June of this year, this indicator increased by 10.5%.
