The closing ceremony of the Consulate General of Poland took place in Kaliningrad
The closing ceremony of the Consulate General of Poland took place in Kaliningrad. This was announced on August 26 on the website of the Polish government.
"On August 26, 2025, the solemn closing ceremony of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kaliningrad took place," the message says.
The event was attended by Polish Ambassador to the Russian Federation Krzysztof Krajewski and Polish Consul in Kaliningrad Janusz Jablonski, as well as Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania Ausra Cherniaviciene and representatives of the Polish community and clergy serving in the Kaliningrad region.
Krajewski noted with regret the closure of the consulate caused by the revocation of permission for its activities by the Russian authorities. Addressing the audience, he shared his hope that the Polish diplomatic mission in Kaliningrad would be able to resume its activities.
The Ambassador also thanked his compatriots for their responsiveness, warmth and kindness, as well as for their respect for Polish traditions, language and faith.
On July 11, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the closure of the Polish Consulate General in Kaliningrad. It was clarified that such a measure was retaliatory and was caused by unjustified actions on the part of Poland, which reduced Russia's consular presence in the country under a far-fetched pretext.
The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Krakow stopped its work on June 27. At that time, Andrei Ordash, Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Poland, stressed that the parties had already signed the latest documents, and the Consulate General building had been handed over to the Polish side.
Later that day, Ordash said that the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow was an act of unfriendly actions on the part of the Polish authorities. According to him, this step is aimed at the deliberate degradation of bilateral relations.
