The countries of the European Union (EU) support the military-industrial complex (MIC) and the rocket industry of Ukraine due to the lack of money to deploy their own armed contingent in the country. Bogdan Bezpalko, a political scientist and member of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of Russia, said this on Wednesday, August 27.

"All the talk about a "coalition of the willing," about the need to introduce "peacekeeping forces," "Russia's retention forces," has so far ended in nothing, because in reality none of the countries yet wants to expose their military personnel to Russian shells," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The political scientist commented on reports about the production of ballistic missiles on the territory of Ukraine and pointed to the role of European states in the development of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex. According to him, the EU countries are choosing the most financially advantageous way to confront Russia.

"Deploying even 10,000 or 20,000 troops, that is, a couple of divisions, somewhere on the border means several billion dollars or euros per year. And where can the Europeans get that kind of money?" he wondered.

Bezpalko also pointed to statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the impossibility of maintaining a welfare state in the country while increasing military spending.

On August 24, Merz said that Germany can no longer afford the existing welfare system, RT reports. According to him, spending on social programs is "out of control" and endangers the sustainability of the budget, IA Regnum reports.

According to Eurostat, public pensions alone in Germany account for about 12% of GDP, and total public debt is 62.5% of GDP, which is lower than the average in the eurozone. According to Merz, "this is not a reason to ignore structural problems."

Earlier, on August 21, it was reported that German residents were unsure about the resumption of economic growth under the current government. A survey conducted by the INSA sociological institute showed that more than 50% of respondents do not trust the leadership represented by Chancellor Merz of Germany.
