- Bloomberg reported on the acceleration of the EU lifting duties on American manufactured goods
The European Union (EU) plans to make concessions to US President Donald Trump by speeding up the removal of duties on American manufactured goods. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 27.
"The European Union will try to speed up the adoption of legislation by the end of the week to eliminate all tariffs on US manufactured goods. <...>The EU recognized that the trade agreement concluded with Trump benefits the United States, but is necessary to ensure stability and certainty of business," the authors of the article emphasized.
It is noted that, according to the agreement between Washington and Brussels, tariffs on goods in the automotive industry of the EU states in the amount of 27.5% will be reduced to 15% if Europe meets the requirements of the White House on manufactured goods.
"According to informed sources, the European Commission, which deals with EU trade issues, will also provide preferential tariff rates for some seafood and agricultural products," the article added.
The United States and the European Union agreed on a trade deal on July 27. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. As a result of the deal, the European Union remains with 15 percent tariffs on most of its exports, including cars.
US President Donald Trump stressed that such an agreement "satisfies both sides." Later, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called it imperfect.
