General Director of HC Sochi Grigorenko was disqualified for four years for doping
Igor Grigorenko, General Director of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) hockey club Sochi, was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. This was announced on August 27 on the website of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
"The IIHF has disqualified former Russian ice hockey player Igor Grigorenko for a period of four years for violating anti—doping rules in accordance with Article 2.2 (Use of a prohibited substance) of the IIHF Anti-Doping Regulations," the statement said.
According to the organization, the violation concerns a sample taken after the KHL match between HC CSKA Moscow and Finnish Jokerit.
It is clarified that an investigation conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) revealed the presence of six banned substances, including methenolone, meldonium and others. These substances are included in the organization's prohibited list in the category of "anabolic agents and stimulants."
It is noted that Grigorenko was formally charged and given the opportunity to respond. The organization stressed that his refusal to speak is considered consent to disqualification.
On August 22, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) disqualified athletes Artem and Nadezhda Zubkov for violations of anti-doping rules. It is noted that they admitted the violation. The agency explained that in this regard, the period of ineligibility was reduced based on paragraph 12.8.1 of the OAP, as a result, the athletes were suspended until February 2, 2028.
