The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no casualties in the 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Dagestan.

After a powerful earthquake of magnitude 5.9 in Dagestan, there were no casualties or damage. This was announced on August 27 by the press service of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

"There is no information about casualties and destruction," the department's Telegram channel clarified.

To assess the damage, the staff of the services organized a hearing of reports from the duty and dispatch services of municipalities and conducted a telephone survey of socially significant facilities. At the moment, social and cultural facilities are functioning normally, the main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations added.

On August 26, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported a magnitude 5.5 earthquake in the Caspian Sea. It was clarified that the seismic event occurred at 20:33 UTC (23:33 Moscow time), 51 km northwest of the Dagestani city of Derbent.
