- Szijjarto suspects the EU of coordinating the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline
Ukraine would not have been able to carry out the attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline without coordinating its actions with the European Commission (EC), personally its Chairman Ursula von der Leyen and the leaders of the European Union (EU) countries. This opinion was expressed on August 26 by Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary.
"It is very difficult to imagine that this issue would not arise between [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky and von der Leyen, as well as other European leaders. <...> They communicate constantly, they fill various social networks with information about how many times they communicated on a given day," the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said on the Wrestling Hour program. The broadcast was conducted on the YouTube channel of the program.
At the same time, at the beginning of the year, the EC made written commitments to protect the energy supply infrastructure of EU countries from attacks from countries outside the community, Szijjarto recalled. However, after three attacks on Druzhba by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) von der Leyen "didn't say a word."
"After that, it is very difficult to believe that there was no coordination between von der Leyen, some European leaders and Zelensky regarding the attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline. It is very difficult to imagine that they would not discuss this in at least a few sentences," the politician said.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on August 22 that the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Russian oil flows to Hungary and Slovakia, was again attacked by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of the incident, oil supplies to Hungary were stopped. According to Szijjarto, they will resume in five days.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on August 26 that he was unable to understand the purpose of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attacks on the country's oil infrastructure. He described the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline as "bad intentions." Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, called the attack pure banditry. She stressed that in international law such activities are classified as terrorist.
