The turnover of textile and clothing manufacturers in Moscow increased by 30%
The turnover of the capital's textile and clothing manufacturers in the first half of 2025 amounted to 139 billion rubles, an increase of 29.6% in comparable prices compared to the same period last year. Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city, told Izvestia on August 27.
"There are many manufacturers of clothing and textiles in Moscow, from large factories specializing in mass tailoring to small ateliers and designer brands. They are developing production, introducing innovative solutions, which allows them to supply the capital's market with products that can satisfy any needs of citizens. In the first half of 2025, enterprises in the industry earned 139 billion rubles, exceeding the figure for the same period last year by almost a third. The capital's clothing and textile manufacturers account for 3.8% of the turnover of Moscow's manufacturing industries, excluding the oil and gas sector, and more than 20% of the total turnover of the industry in Russia," Bagreeva said.
Over 80% of the industry's revenue — about 115 billion rubles — was provided by clothing manufacturers. Compared to last year, it has grown by 34%. Textile manufacturers accounted for almost 20% of the total turnover. It amounted to 25.4 billion rubles, which is 12.4% more than a year earlier.
The industry's growth is primarily driven by small businesses. Their turnover increased by 70% compared to the first half of 2024, to 85 billion rubles. Their share in the industry turnover increased by 15 percentage points and amounted to 61%. Large and medium—sized enterprises account for 39% of total revenue - 55 billion.
The active development and modernization of the light industry is supported by investments in fixed assets: in the first quarter of 2025, the textile and clothing sector grew by 79% in comparable prices.
A study by the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-term Forecasting (CMAKP), which was reviewed by Izvestia on July 1, said that under the influence of geopolitical shocks, some sectors of the Russian Federation faced both a deterioration and an improvement in the financial situation. Thus, positive changes are observed, among other things, in the production of textiles, clothing, and electrical equipment for machinery.
