- Dmitriev called criticism of Woody Allen's participation in Moscow Film Week inappropriate
An attempt to "cancel" American director Woody Allen, who spoke online at the Moscow International Film Week, through criticism is inappropriate. This was announced on August 26 by Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
"The attempt to cancel Woody Allen's performance via video link at the Moscow International Film Festival does not take into account the essence: Russia is not isolated," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
In addition, Dmitriev noted that art should "build" rather than "burn" bridges.
On August 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemned the director's online participation in the Moscow International Film Week. Woody Allen himself, commenting on this note, noted that he did not consider breaking up creative discussions to be "a good way to help."
On the same day, Izvestia published footage from events held within the framework of the festival, which runs from August 23 to 27 in Moscow. World stars from more than 20 countries came to the capital specifically to participate in it, including actor and martial artist Mark Dacascos, known for his roles in such action films as "The Legend of Bruce Lee", "The Crying Killer", and "John Wick 3".
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
