Divers joined the search for the missing Russian in the Bosphorus
Divers have begun searching for Russian Nikolai Svechnikov, who disappeared in the Bosphorus Strait. This was reported to RIA Novosti on August 25 by a relative of swimmer Alena.
"A helicopter will be involved in the search tomorrow, and divers have already joined in today," the woman said.
Alyona clarified that a rescue service boat is also being used in the search, on which she and her wife Nikolai Antonina are currently staying. According to the relative, four employees are looking for the swimmer with them, one of whom is looking ahead through binoculars, two are in the cockpit, and another is checking the territory from behind.
Svechnikov's disappearance became known earlier that day. A professional swimmer did not reach the finish line when swimming across the Bosphorus in Istanbul. After swimming 500-600 m, the athlete disappeared from sight. According to one version, Svechnikov could have experienced a leg cramp and was carried away by the current. Nikolay Skvortsov, an Honored master of sports and world record holder in swimming, also suggested that the man could have been swept away by the current.
The wife of the missing swimmer Antonina, in turn, expressed her intention to request a video of Svechnikov's full swim. She also clarified that she was going to contact the prosecutor's office and get a written opinion from the consulate about which forces were involved in the search. Later, the Istanbul authorities announced the beginning of an investigation into the causes and circumstances of Svechnikov's disappearance.
