Lavrov confirmed Russia's readiness to contribute to de-escalation in the Middle East
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, confirmed Russia's readiness to continue diplomatic efforts to normalize the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and de-escalation in the Middle East. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on August 25.
"The Russian side confirmed its readiness to continue making a significant contribution to diplomatic efforts to normalize the situation around the JCPOA and de—escalate tensions in the Middle East," the statement said.
The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry informed Lavrov about the results of his telephone conversation with colleagues from Great Britain, Germany and France on the settlement of the Iranian nuclear program.
Priority issues on the bilateral agenda were also discussed, including the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in January 2025 and agreements reached to expand cooperation in the fields of transport and energy.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian leader Masoud Peseshkian had a telephone conversation, during which they discussed the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and the situation in the South Caucasus. In addition, the heads of state discussed issues on the bilateral agenda in the field of energy and transport.
