The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has received information about a fire at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). On August 24, the agency announced this on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"Every nuclear facility must be permanently protected," IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is quoted as saying.

At the same time, the agency stated that they "have no independent confirmation of these reports."

Earlier in the day, air defense systems shot down a drone over the Kursk NPP. During the fall, the drone detonated, which caused damage to the transformer.

According to Rosenergoatom, due to a transformer fire caused by the fall of a Ukrainian drone, unit No. 3 was half unloaded. The radiation background at the industrial site and the surrounding area did not change and corresponds to natural values.
