Emine Erdogan called on Melania Trump to intervene in the fate of children in Gaza
In a letter addressed to the wife of US President Donald Trump, Turkish First Lady Emina Erdogan stressed the importance of showing the same sensitivity to the children of Palestine that Melania Trump showed to the children of Ukraine. This was reported by the Anadolu agency on August 23.
"We still have a chance for more than a million children who have managed to survive in the Gaza Strip. The time has come a long time ago," Erdogan wrote.
She noted the horrific effects of the conflict on children in Gaza, comparing their conditions to "hell" on the surface and a "children's cemetery" underground.
"Could you imagine that the term "unknown soldier" would ever be applied to children? Today, the phrase "unidentified baby" on the shrouds of thousands of children in Gaza causes irreparable wounds to the conscience of humanity," Emine Erdogan said.
She called on Melania Trump to write to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisting on ending the humanitarian crisis, stressing that children's rights and respect for international law must be a priority.
Earlier, on August 23, it was reported that hundreds of thousands of people were forced to live in a tent city in the Sheikh Radwan quarter. Mahmoud Alawadia, a correspondent for Al Mayadeen TV channel, also spoke about children sitting on the sand under the scorching sun without being able to protect themselves from the winter cold and summer heat.
