Klaus von Donanyi, a former Hamburg mayor and politician, said that sustainable peace in Europe is impossible without taking into account Russia's interests and dialogue with it. He said this on August 21 in an interview with Die Welt.

"One glance at the map is enough. We are just an appendage of the large Eurasian continent, which is largely under the influence of the Russian Federation," Donanyi said.

In his opinion, cooperation with Moscow does not mean agreement with its policies, but understanding Russia's interests is critically important for the future of European security.

He added that ignoring Russia's role in the region only exacerbates tensions and hinders the search for ways to stability.

Earlier, on August 20, it was reported about Europe's interest in negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict. Andrei Kortunov, an expert at the Valdai Club, said that the participation of Europeans was inevitable.
