The Interior Ministry warned Russians about a new fraud scheme with voice copying

The scammers began using a new two-step deception scheme to steal money from Russians. This was reported on August 23 by the TASS news agency with reference to the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that at the first stage, fraudsters contact the victim under the guise of an employee of a telecommunications company, who informs the subscriber about the upcoming disconnection of city telephone lines and suggests switching to an alternative line while maintaining the number and the previous terms of the tariff plan. After receiving the consent, the interlocutor promises to prepare and send the necessary documents.

At the second stage, as noted by "Gazeta.Ru", the scammers call again and introduce themselves as law enforcement officers and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. They report that the victim had previously communicated with fraudsters who used a copied voice to gain access to bank accounts.

Under the pretext of protecting savings, the attackers propose to declare the available money and transfer it to a "secure account", after which they steal the funds received in this way.

Earlier, on August 12, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that the transfer of communication to unofficial messengers, frequent changes of banking details, and pressure on the urgency of payment are among the top ten signs of fraud in online purchases. Other suspicious signs are a sudden change in the minimum withdrawal amount, blocking refunds at the checkout stage, abandoning alternative shipping methods, and insurance as a mandatory down payment.
