With the evacuation of Nagovitsina, rescuers began to be removed from Victory Peak
The rescue operation of Natalia Nagovitsina, a Russian woman stuck at Victory Peak, may not be resumed, and the remaining groups are being removed from work. On August 23, the head of the rescue operation, Vitaly Akimov, told Izvestia.
Rescuers who went to Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan for Natalia Nagovitsina were also looking for Italian climber Luca Sinigaglia. He tried to help her, but died before reaching the place.
According to Akimov, the expedition members reached an altitude of 6 thousand meters, but the search for the climber had to be curtailed due to the poor health of the group leader - an old injury made itself felt in the mountains.
"It's good on the grass in general. Well, you always feel good when you go down. When you go up, you have to be well prepared," said Akimov, who has more than 16 seven—thousand—meter ascents behind him.
Izvestia correspondent Ivan Litomin noted that at the moment the intermediate camps are being curtailed, and the dispatch of rescue groups has been suspended, and most likely will not be resumed. Currently, the remaining groups are being removed from the routes due to the worsening weather conditions.
The fact that 47-year-old Nagovitsina was stuck at Victory Peak was reported on August 19 in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan. She broke her leg during the descent and has been at altitude for a week. On the same day, a group of rescuers was sent to the woman. Vera Belikova, the administrator of the Karkyr base camp, said that Nagovitsina is a very strong and calm person. She has already had experience of climbing mountain peaks in the past, and many climbers know her.
On August 22, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the country reported on the possibility of rescuers to reach the Russian climber on the same day. However, communication with rescuers was completely absent at that time. On the same day, the operation to rescue Nagovitsina was forcibly suspended. On August 23, the department assumed that Nagovitsina had died.
