Canada will lift retaliatory duties on most U.S. goods in an effort to reduce tensions with the White House. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 22.

"A wide range of consumer goods manufactured in the United States will no longer be subject to a 25% duty on imports to Canada if they are delivered in accordance with the provisions of the agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada," the material says.

It is specified that the Canadian government will change its tariff policy to be more in line with US measures, but the authorities intend to maintain import duties of 25% on American steel and aluminum, as well as cars.

On August 1, US President Donald Trump imposed additional duties on imported goods from the European Union (EU) and more than 60 foreign countries. It was noted that the highest new duties were imposed on goods from Laos, Myanmar (40% each) and Syria (41%). In particular, Trump increased import duties on goods from Canada from 25% to 35%.

Prior to that, on June 27, the US president announced the termination of trade negotiations with Canada due to the introduction of a tax on digital services of American technology companies.
