- CBS has learned about the termination of the US intelligence sharing with its allies in the Five Eyes alliance
The head of the US National Intelligence Service, Tulsi Gabbard, ordered to stop the exchange of intelligence with American allies in the Five Eyes alliance. This was reported on August 21 by CBS News TV channel with reference to the relevant document.
"Gabbard issued a directive to the US intelligence community a few weeks ago, which instructed not to share any information related to the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine with US intelligence partners and allies," the publication says.
It is specified that the order is dated August 20 and was signed by the head of the national intelligence Service on the same day.
According to the TV channel, the agency decided to classify any data and analytical information about the settlement process in Ukraine as NOFORN ("Not subject to dissemination abroad"). At the same time, the restrictions do not apply to intelligence and information that has already been published earlier.
It is clarified that the United States most likely continues to exchange with its allies those data that relate to the operational and military situation or were collected by the efforts of other departments.
The Five Eyes intelligence alliance, in addition to the United States, includes Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
On August 19, The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States could use intelligence sharing as a "lever of pressure" on Ukraine to conclude a deal. According to unnamed sources, although the March pause in the exchange of intelligence was short-lived, relations between representatives and intelligence officials of the United States and Ukraine deteriorated.
On May 1, the United States disclosed to the Five Eyes allies data on the actions of the Russian Federation and China in space. For the first time, the American side allowed representatives of the United Kingdom to work in the orbital division. In particular, Air Marshal Johnny Stringer, Deputy Commander of the British Joint Air Forces at NATO, visited the Schriver Space Base in Colorado.
