Russian troops continue their active offensive operations in the Pokrovsky direction, pushing the enemy back and creating a real threat of encirclement of the entire Pokrovsko-Mirnograd agglomeration. The key to success was not only effective advance, but also a special tactic that allows you to enter the enemy's rear and cut off his supply routes. The Hero of Russia, captain, commander of the rifle company of the 1st Guards Slavic Brigade of the 51st Army of the Southern Military District, told Izvestia about how the battles are going.

The "break-up" maneuver

Hero of Russia Captain Tkach, commander of a rifle company, standing at a map of one of the screens of the command post, told Izvestia about the successes of his subordinates: "We are trying to take Pokrovsk in a ring, and most of it is already covered. We are also moving north to stretch the enemy's front line and, as they say, "take it apart."

Our interlocutor shared cases when, in between enemy rotations, Russian attack aircraft successfully bypassed part of the strongholds and secured themselves on them. The soldiers who arrived as replacements, believing that they were going to their own, found themselves in our positions.

The effectiveness of this tactic, which the Ukrainian command and the press call infiltration or infiltration, is now being reported by the enemy media.

According to Ukrainian media reports, an assault corps formed on the basis of the nationalist Azov group (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) was deployed to the Pokrovsky direction. However, according to Tkach, although he noted the presence of the Azovians in this area, they did not have a significant impact on the situation.

The enemy regularly tries to deliver new personnel using equipment and vehicles. However, these attempts are often thwarted by Russian kamikaze UAVs. And at this moment, the commanders note one important feature: after destroying the vehicles, the enemy fighters run away in panic, not knowing what to do next.

Sometimes, while completing tasks, we find lost soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine alone or in small groups. The enemy is not undertaking large—scale counterattacks, he is trying to hold on to his positions," explains the Hero of Russia.

He added that Russian troops had managed to occupy a significant area and the enemy forces were not enough to close the entire front line. This creates a strategic advantage, allowing our fighters to effectively control the situation.

Disrupted logistics of the Armed Forces

Previously, under heavy fire, the enemy could retreat. However, now, according to the captain, the militants in the strongholds often stand to the end. The interlocutor attributes this to the fact that their colleagues, militants from the nationalist group Azov (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), threaten those who try to leave their positions with violence.

— The enemy's logistics are severely disrupted. Most of the supplies go by air. We notice UAVs dropping food and ammunition," says Captain Tkach. — It is difficult for the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to move, and rotation is extremely rare. Therefore, those who are currently on their borders have been there for a long time. And where the enemy is trying to break through to his own for supplies, we cut off these routes and leave him without support.

Exhausting the enemy and cutting off strong points is the key to a successful assault. Captain Tkach received his highest award for storming one of the commanding heights near Avdiivka.

— We were covered by very strong artillery. We were at one point for three days and couldn't make any progress. As soon as the fire died down, we went further up and walked about 2 km. My group captured 10 people and completely cleared the area, joining up with another brigade," the officer recalls.

The Soviet Strela-10 on the hunt for drones

In the Pokrovsky direction, Ukrainian troops continue to actively use all types of UAVs. The fighters of the 23rd separate anti-aircraft missile Division of the 51st Guards Army of the Southern Military District provide protection from air attack here. Recently, they successfully destroyed the new Ukrainian Poseidon devices, which were previously reported by Izvestia.

This is a novelty in the arsenal of the Ukrainian army. The complex, officially adopted in early 2025, combines the advantages of copters and aircraft-type UAVs. The Poseidon design has four lifting propellers and one pusher, as well as developed wings and a double-girder tail. This configuration allows the device to take off vertically without a catapult, which makes it possible to launch it closer to the front line and save battery power.

— It is written that Poseidon is produced in Ukraine, but it is unlikely that this is true. One of the most memorable goals: when you first see and shoot down an unfamiliar drone with the first missile, that's happiness! — says Vladimir, who has been serving since 2015, first in the People's Militia of the DPR, and now in the Russian army.

The Soviet Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile system has remained one of the foundations of close-range military air defense for decades. In the current conditions, it is applied differently than it was intended when it was created. Escorting armored convoys and covering them from helicopters is out of the question. In the context of the massive use of small kamikaze UAVs, air defense tactics have changed at all levels. But Strela, with its new missiles, is now hunting not helicopters, but relatively slow and unarmored aircraft-type drones. At the same time, the installation itself is defended by shooters with guns.
