The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries want to publicly support US President Donald Trump in his peace initiative on the conflict in Ukraine until he himself begins to take a tougher stance towards Russia. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 19.

"Their strategy is to indulge Donald Trump and praise him until he finally comes to the same conclusion and realizes that he needs to take a tougher stance towards the Kremlin," the publication says.

It is noted that European leaders allegedly do not believe in the sincerity of Russia's intentions for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
