Marina Starovoitova, a woman, became the new captain of the nuclear icebreaker for the first time in history. This was announced on August 20 at the "Era of Dreamers" gala show in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Rosatom State Corporation.

"Meet the first ever female captain of a nuclear icebreaker, Marina Starovoitova!" the event's host announced.

Prior to that, Starovoitova held the position of senior assistant to the captain of the Yamal nuclear icebreaker.
