Russia supports the restoration of negotiations between the parties to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This was announced on August 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

He pointed to the continuing deterioration of the situation in the Palestinian territories — in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. According to him, the Russian Federation is seriously concerned about what is happening.

Lavrov noted that Russia sees the elimination of humanitarian problems and the prevention of a humanitarian catastrophe as one of the most urgent and priority steps. De-escalation measures should be the next steps, he added.

"We stand for the early resumption of negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis <...> to resolve current issues, declare a truce, release hostages and Palestinians who are in Israeli prisons," the minister said during a joint press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi.

He specified that the next stage should be a dialogue on the final status of the territories of Palestine in accordance with the decisions unanimously adopted at the UN on the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The Russian Foreign Minister also clarified that Moscow regularly provides assistance to the Palestinians. He recalled the last batch of wheat in 30 thousand tons, which was shipped in June. At the same time, Lavrov stressed the difficult conditions for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinian areas, where residents need food, medicines, and basic necessities.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced the approval of a plan to capture Gaza called "Gideon's Chariots— 2." According to him, after the completion of the operation, Gaza "will change its appearance and will no longer look like it was in the past." Later, the Ynet portal reported that Israel's plan to capture Gaza is calculated until 2026. According to them, up to 130,000 reservists will take part in the operation.

In turn, political analyst Dmitry Bridge, in an interview with Izvestia, predicted difficulties for Israel in carrying out Operation Gideon's Chariots — 2. According to him, despite the ambition, the operation is difficult. He stressed that the urban environment, dense buildings and an extensive network of tunnels make the capture of the city a slow and costly process.
