The lawyer spoke about the foster family's love for the girl abandoned at the Turkish airport

The foster family of a girl who was left in the toilet of a Turkish airport by Russian Ekaterina Burnashkina after birth has fallen in love with the child and intends to fight for him. Maria Yakovleva, the victims' lawyer, told Izvestia about this on August 20.

"The girl lives in a loving family, they walk all the time, she doesn't have any stress. The family loved the girl very much as their own. They already have experience with foster children, they have taken appropriate courses, and they are determined to keep her," the lawyer explained.

Yakovleva added that a criminal case had been opened against Burnashkina on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 30 of Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder by a mother of a newborn child"). The woman faces up to three years in prison.

The hearing on Burnashkina's deprivation of parental rights was held behind closed doors and was postponed until September 4 due to the court's decision to involve the Russian Foreign Ministry as a third party. The lawyer suggested that the litigation could drag on, since the crime was committed on the territory of a foreign country.

In October 2024, Burnashkina gave birth to a baby in the bathroom of Antalya airport and left him to die. The girl survived due to the fact that she was found 12 minutes after the incident. A criminal case was opened against the woman. She stated that she did not know about the pregnancy, but later expressed a desire to take the girl to Russia, as she is a citizen of the Russian Federation.

On February 24, a Turkish court sentenced Burnashkina to 15 years in prison on charges of attempted murder of a close relative. 9 months later, she was released from custody, reclassifying the criminal case to "abandonment," and her prison sentence was reduced. An abandoned child was found a new family in the Moscow region.
