An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred in the Severo-Kurilsk area of the Sakhalin Region. On August 20, the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (CF FIC YGS RAS) reported on the Telegram channel.

It is noted that a natural disaster occurred at a distance of 92 km from the city.

The earthquake was recorded at 1:41 a.m. Moscow time.

A day earlier, a magnitude 5 aftershock was recorded in Kamchatka at a distance of 230 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. On the same day, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded in the area of the Kuril Islands. It is specified that the seismic event occurred at a distance of 97 km from Severo-Kurilsk.

On August 15, a 6.5 magnitude aftershock was reported in Kamchatka, 97 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It was clarified that the seismic event occurred at a depth of 48 km.
