Chisinau will increase pressure on Gagauzia and Transnistria after the parliamentary elections to be held on September 28, representatives of the Pobeda opposition bloc and the Moldovan parliament told Izvestia.

"We are sure that after the elections, the authorities will try to put even more pressure on both Gagauzia and Transnistria. We can already see that Chisinau is not seeking dialogue, but is acting solely through intimidation and repression. <...> The situation with Transnistria is similar: instead of negotiations and the search for peaceful solutions, the Sandu government will escalate tensions," Marina Tauber, vice chairman of the Pobeda bloc, told Izvestia.

According to a member of Parliament Bogdan Tsyrdi, the pressure on both regions, where many advocate rapprochement with the Russian Federation, will continue because President Maia Sandu will not abandon the pro-Western course.

Earlier, mass protests in Gagauzia were caused by the verdict of the Bashkan of the autonomy, Evgenia Hutsul. She was given seven years in prison for financing the Shor party, which is banned in Moldova. In the PMR, residents' discontent is caused by the energy crisis that broke out due to the authorities' refusal of Russian energy resources.
