Japan announced its readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said that the country is ready to participate in providing security guarantees to Ukraine. This was announced on August 19 by the Nippon portal.
"We will carefully discuss what our country can and should do, including in terms of laws and capabilities, and we will play an appropriate role," the portal quoted Isib as saying to reporters at the Prime Minister's office in Tokyo.
At the same time, he noted that he did not know what the provision of security to Ukraine would consist of.
Earlier in the day, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that the United States would discuss acceptable security guarantees for Ukraine with Russia. She added that the United States does not rule out air support as part of such guarantees.
Later, on August 18, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump met at the White House. The closed-door talks lasted about 30 minutes. After that, the American and Ukrainian presidents talked with the leaders of the European Union countries.
