- Physicist Ozharovsky, who was detained in Mongolia, told about the way to the migration office
Andrei Ozharovsky, a Russian nuclear physicist detained in Mongolia without explanation, is currently on his way, accompanied by local police officers. The scientist told Izvestia about this on August 10.
Ozharovsky clarified that the detention was carried out by employees of the migration service and the police. At the same time, the guards took his passport.
"It's three o'clock in the morning, I'm still driving. My passport is still not with me," the scientist said.
According to the physicist, he travels in his friend's car. Currently, the specialist has communication and a telephone, as well as food, water and personal belongings.
"I don't have any domestic problems. The only thing is that I am deprived of my freedom. I have to follow these police officers so that they can ask me a question somewhere out there that they can't ask here in the steppe," the detainee said.
He noted that he has been on the road for five hours, and the journey will take about three more hours.
Ozharovsky added that he came to Mongolia at the invitation of local activists. His goal was to study radiation in the area of a radioactive waste dump near a uranium quarry abandoned in the 1980s.
"I found out that there are activists here in Mongolia who want help in measuring the radiation situation. I have experience, I have devices, that's why I actually came here on my vacation," he shared.
Currently, the Russian has been sent to the Choibalsan immigration office.
Rana became aware of Ozharovsky's detention on that day. According to him, first a car pulled up to him, from which a girl got out and introduced herself as an employee of the migration service. She asked the scientist for a passport, and then took the document away without bringing any charges or explaining the reasons for her detention.
The incident occurred while exploring abandoned uranium quarries in the area of the Mardai deposit.
