The import of used cars from China to Russia has increased dramatically

The volume of used passenger car imports from China to Russia has more than quadrupled in the first seven months of this year. If at the beginning of 2025, China accounted for only about 3% of the total structure of used cars imported into the Russian Federation, then by July this figure had increased to 16%. Sergey Tselikov, General Director of the Autostat analytical agency, told Izvestia about this.

According to the analyst, in the structure of used car imports from China to the Russian Federation, most of them are models of the so-called "global" brands that are manufactured in factories in China.

"There are a lot of used Toyota, Volkswagen, Mazda, Nissan, BMW models produced in China. "Chinese brands directly account for about 25% of used car imports, mainly Geely and Changan," Tselikov said.

The expert noted that mostly fresh models aged about three years are being transported from China to Russia. At the same time, the share of right-hand drive vehicles from Japan in the total import volume is decreasing.
