Chris Ilich, CEO of the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Club (HC) of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced on August 19 that the club would officially withdraw Sergei Fedorov's number 91 from circulation at a special ceremony.
"It is a great honor for us to celebrate Sergey Fedorov's contribution and raise his number 91 to its rightful place under the arches of the Little Caesars Arena among the greatest players of all time who wore the Winged Wheel," said Ilic. His words are quoted on the club's website.
Fedorov thanked the team and its CEO for this decision.
"I am incredibly grateful for this great honor. I've been lucky enough to be a part of unforgettable teams, and above all, I'm proud of the three Stanley Cups we've won for our wonderful fans in Hockey Town. The memories associated with this time — with legendary teammates, coaches and exceptional leadership — will stay with me forever," said the hockey player.
Fedorov spent 13 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings from 1990 to 2003 and is currently among the club's leaders in this indicator: 908 games (11th place), 400 goals (4th place), 554 assists (7th place), 954 points (6th2nd place), score +276 (2nd place), 117 goals in the majority (5th place), 309 points in the majority (7th place), 31 goals in the minority (2nd place), 12 goals in overtime (1st place), 79 winning goals (3rd place) and 3148 shots on goal (5th place).

It is specified that players who started their career after January 1, 2000 could get into this national team.
