Flirting with a robot: AI has become a bad advisor when dating online
An AI service has appeared online, designed to improve the effectiveness of communication in messengers and social networks — it is aimed at men who want to improve the quality of correspondence with girls. The service offers message options for a wide variety of situations, but experts are confident that such a trick can turn into big problems in live communication. For more information about how neural networks become bad advisors when dating online and what risks such a practice carries— read the Izvestia article.
What is known about a neural network for communicating with girls
An AI service has appeared online, designed to improve the effectiveness of communication in messengers and social networks. According to the developers, the TryAgainText neural network is aimed at men who want to improve the quality of correspondence with potential female interlocutors.
The platform is based on a custom language model, which is trained on specially selected materials. There are dozens of interaction scenarios in the neural network database.: from restoring communication during a long pause to reactions to unsuccessful jokes and even ignoring a question. For the smooth development of the dialogue, the service allows you to upload screenshots of the conversation. The algorithm generates responses based on the selected communication application, the target audience, and taking into account the context.
The Izvestia correspondent decided to test the service. As it turned out, despite the English interface language, the neural network also supports Russian.
The first test was a scenario in which a girl does not answer the standard question "Hello, how are you?". Artificial intelligence offered three message options in this case:
- "Diary, note: the pretty one has disappeared. Send rescuers?" (the chance of success, according to AI, is 93%);
- "Missing the day: you. Should I advertise or wait for a miracle?" (91%);
- "Was it a ghost rehearsal? Get back on stage)" (90%).
If the interviewee ignored the compliment, the neural network offered the following answers:
- "Dear diary, honey is missing. Should I call a search party?" (92%);
- "Hello, dispatcher? Here one beauty went offline without warning" (90%);
- "I suspect you're a ninja. At least leave an emoji so I know you're alive" (90%).
Finally, if the girl replied that she was busy, when asked to meet in the evening, the service offered to get out of the situation like this:
- "Okay, when's your window?" (92%);
- "Then I'll book you for another day. When is it convenient?"(90%);
- "Understood. What day should I kidnap you for?)"(90%)
As the developers of the neural network noted, their product is effective for online correspondence, but it is also important for the user to improve personal communication skills. And the responses from the AI once again confirmed this statement.
Why neural networks come to the field of online dating
As soon as large language models have become popular, users tend to use them to automate various life tasks, including in the field of personal relationships, Vladislav Tushkanov, head of the research and development group for machine learning technologies at Kaspersky Lab, said in an interview with Izvestia.
— Chatbots can really be a good source of inspiration right now. And in the future, artificial intelligence will be involved in the dating industry even more actively," says the expert.
For example, the majority of Russians (65%) would like to try AI services in the process of finding a soulmate. They plan to turn to them as a source of ideas for dates, gifts and dialogues, Tushkanov cites the results of a recent Kaspersky Lab survey.
Natalia Konstantinova, psychologist of the I Understand corporate well-being platform, explains that the attractiveness of such tools is explained by several factors. Firstly, they relieve the stress of searching for the "right" words, because it can be difficult for many to start or maintain correspondence, especially in new or emotionally significant situations.
— Secondly, the AI offers ready-made scenarios: from light flirting to restoring dialogue after a pause, which saves time and effort. In an environment where correspondence has become too important a stage in the development of relationships, and competition for the attention of the interlocutor is high, the desire to increase one's chances looks like a natural development, says the expert.
What are the risks of using neural networks in online dating?
However, although users are increasingly turning to neural networks for advice in online dating, this practice carries certain risks. According to Natalia Konstantinova, constant reliance on ready-made formulations can reduce the sincerity of communication: the interlocutor receives not a lively reaction, but a stylized remark.
— This creates a risk of false expectations, because in a real meeting a person may turn out to be completely different from in a chat, — says the interlocutor of Izvestia. — There is also a psychological danger: excessive dependence on AI undermines confidence in one's own communication skills, creating the feeling that it is impossible to make an impression without "hints".
The use of neural networks for dating also looks questionable from an ethical point of view, says Yakov Filevsky, an expert on sociotechnical testing at Angara Security. In fact, deliberate deception is taking place, since the interlocutor does not know that he is communicating with a robot, and not with a human, and perceives the AI's reactions as the real responses of the interlocutor.
In addition, the frequent use of neural networks reduces empathy in humans, because in reality they do not experience feelings and emotions that they broadcast using a chatbot. According to Yakov Filevsky, a person subsequently loses the ability to conduct complex dialogues and express himself.
—The active and thoughtless use of neural networks in any field leads to the degradation of creativity, critical thinking and improvisation, the ability to search for the necessary information and correctly formulate answers is lost," emphasizes Konstantin Gorbunov, a leading expert on network threats and web developer of the Security Code company. — In addition, such a practice can cause "romantic" disappointments, when in correspondence a person seems talkative, but in reality he cannot connect two words.
How to safely use neural networks when dating
Despite the risks, experts are confident that the penetration of chatbots into the dating industry will grow. The mentioned Kaspersky Lab survey confirms: 76% of respondents are positive about the idea of an AI service to find a partner based on personal preferences.
—In the future, artificial intelligence will be involved in 60% of dating in one way or another," says Stanislav Yezhov, Director of AI at the Astra Group. — Virtual concierges and AI counterparts will appear, integration with VR/AR will be implemented. Against this background, the key task is to preserve humanity in relationships.
At the same time, Vladislav Tushkanov advises not to forget the rules of digital security: do not share confidential data with AI and be critical of its responses. It should be remembered that neural networks are prone to hallucinations.: they may give out information that does not correspond to reality, although it will sound convincing.
To create healthy and honest relationships, Natalia Konstantinova advises you to remember: AI is just a tool, not a substitute for personality. It can help overcome the awkwardness at the start, but developing a bond requires genuine engagement.
— Using neural networks, it is useful to leave room for your own thoughts and feelings, rather than turning correspondence into a mechanical exchange of phrases. Otherwise, virtual intimacy will remain virtual," concludes the Izvestia interlocutor.
