- Participants of Moscow fairs handed over apples to SVO fighters and residents of the border region
Farmers participating in Moscow fairs donated apples from their orchards for the soldiers of the special military operation (SVO), as well as residents of frontline territories and refugees. As reported on the website of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on August 19, the action is timed to coincide with the Yablochny Spas holiday, which is celebrated on Tuesday.
All the fruits were donated to the charity fund "We are near", which has been collecting humanitarian supplies since 2022. The farm apples will be sent to the recipients on the 28th flight. The fruits will be given to soldiers, medical company specialists, refugees, social protection workers and families living in the new territories.
"I made the decision to help after a trip to liberated Mariupol. Upon his return, he began to look for an opportunity to do something for the fighters and local residents. There are a lot of people who are ready to buy something or volunteer, but don't know how to do it when it comes to THEIR OWN. For this purpose, funds such as ours are needed," said Andrey Sesemov, founder of We Are Near.
There are already 600 active participants in the fund. Farmers also send vegetables grown in their gardens, make trench candles and dry showers, dry blanks, weave camouflage nets and purchase medicines.
On August 9, the mayor of the capital said that Moscow, together with non-profit organizations, supports ITS participants and their families. Sobyanin recalled that dozens of NGOs work in the city, which "have united caring Muscovites — they transfer humanitarian aid, visit fighters in hospitals, write letters to them and just stay close."
