The Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy (RF Navy) has launched a bilateral tactical training exercise with the development of tasks for the purpose in the offshore combat training grounds of the Caspian Sea. This was announced on August 19 by the press service of the Caspian Flotilla.

More than 10 ships are taking part in the exercise, including the missile ship Dagestan, the small missile ships Tucha, Amur, Uglich and Veliky Ustyug, as well as the small artillery ships Astrakhan and Makhachkala and the base minesweepers.

It is specified that during the exercise, the crews of missile, small missile and small artillery ships will practice various combat missions. These include mine action, air defense with combat training, artillery firing at coastal targets, as well as episodes of conducting anti-sabotage defense in an unprotected raid. During the exercise, tasks will be practiced both alone and as part of naval strike groups.

At the first stage of the ZTU, the crews of the ships carried out emergency preparations for combat and left the base for the dispersal areas.

Earlier, on August 13, exercises of the Northern Fleet with the participation of 14 ships began in the Barents and White Seas. It is noted that 2,000 people, 60 pieces of equipment, eight aircraft and 14 warships and submarines are participating in the exercises. The training takes place in several stages. Currently, the use of an expeditionary force group of the Northern Fleet to protect the coastal infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route is being worked out.
