In the United States, an explosion occurred on a coal-carrying cargo ship W-Sapphire in the port of Baltimore. This was reported on August 18 by the CBS News channel.

"According to the Baltimore City Fire Department, signs of fire and explosion damage were found on board the 751-foot [≈229 m] W-Sapphire cargo ship with 23 people," the publication says.

It is reported that the ship remained afloat after the incident. The fire on board the cargo ship was localized. It is noted that after that, the ship returned to the harbor under its own power to anchor.

There were no casualties as a result of the explosion.

Earlier, on July 7, an explosion on a chemical tanker en route to Oman occurred off the coast of India outside the shipping channel in the port of Dendayal (former Candla). The entire 21-person crew was successfully evacuated within an hour. It is specified that the tanker was without cargo at the time of the explosion. According to sources, about 35% of the ship was damaged.

On June 30, the tanker Vilamoura, carrying about 1 million barrels of oil, exploded off the coast of Libya. A representative of the management company TMS Tankers said that there was no leakage of petroleum products.
