Shark maimed an American tourist while hunting in the Bahamas

In the Bahamas, a 63-year-old tourist from the United States was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark while spearfishing. This was reported on August 17 by the New York Post (NYP) newspaper with reference to the Royal Bahamian Police.

According to the newspaper, the attack took place in the area of Big Grand Cay on the Abakan Islands. It is noted that the victim with severe injuries was taken to a local medical facility, and then evacuated to the United States for further treatment.

The Bahamian police noted that shark attacks in the region remain rare. According to the International Shark Attack Registry, 34 such cases have been confirmed in the Bahamas over the past 400 years.
