The security guard warned about fraud through short videos on social networks
Malicious applications are increasingly being distributed through short videos on social networks, which is where users most often encounter fake information and links leading to sites with infected APK files. Dmitry Morev, Director of Information Security at RuStore, told Izvestia about this on August 19.
According to the expert, scammers adapt to the digital habits of the audience and use not only fake sites, but also videos with tempting descriptions, where they often promise "accelerated installation", "open paid features" or "free subscription". Such schemes lead to phishing resources with fake versions of popular applications.
"In unauthorized sources, the user cannot always recognize a fake. Especially if the link is embedded in entertainment content and accompanied by a visual fake of the interface, logo, or installation animation. In order not to fall for the bait of scammers, it is necessary to download applications only from trusted sources," Morev said.
The expert stressed that even if the video looks "professional", you should download applications only from trusted sources. No official app store distributes installation files via QR codes in videos without explicit verification.
Earlier, on July 7, it was reported that scammers on Telegram began using the new "suggested posts" feature in order to send phishing links to owners of major channels, disguising them as interesting content. The main trick is to offer the administrator a generous fee so that he wants to explore the details via a link that leads to a phishing resource.
