NBC News has learned the details of negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine
The security guarantees for Ukraine under the peace agreement under discussion will not include membership in NATO. This was reported on August 16 by NBC News.
It is noted that negotiations on these guarantees started last week, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, American Vice President Jay Dee Vance and the head of the office of the Ukrainian leader, Andriy Ermak, are participating in them.
"The protective measures discussed at the White House, however, will not be related to NATO membership <...> despite the fact that European leaders wrote in a joint statement this morning that, in their opinion, Ukraine should be given the right to seek membership in NATO," the article says.
Earlier in the day, The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump told European leaders that Washington was ready to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, which it was requesting. In turn, the leaders of the European Union, after a conversation with the head of the United States, said they welcomed the president's words about his intention to provide these guarantees.
