WP learned about Trump's tense conversation with EU leaders and Zelensky
The telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and the heads of European countries after the summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin took place in a tense atmosphere. This was reported on August 16 by The Washington Post (WP), citing a source.
"Trump's call to inform Zelensky and European leaders about the summit, <... It was more intense than the phone conversation between the Europeans and Trump earlier this week," the publication says.
Earlier in the day, Zelensky, in a telephone conversation with Trump, once again asked the United States and European countries to provide security guarantees for Kiev. In turn, the leaders of the European Union, after a conversation with the American president, said they welcomed the president's words about his intention to provide these guarantees.
The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 at the American military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. During the press conference, the Russian president noted the American leader's desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
