The high-level talks held between the leaders of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, have managed to give a new impetus to the search for solutions to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This is how Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assessed the meeting of the two heads of state on August 16.
"We welcome the Alaska summit and hope that this new process will involve the President of Ukraine [Vladimir] Zelensky will lay the foundation for lasting peace," he said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The Turkish leader added that Turkey is "ready to do everything possible to promote peace" in Ukraine.
At a meeting following the Russian-American summit in Alaska on August 16, Putin said that Russia, like the United States, would like an early cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. The Russian leader stressed that the elimination of the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine should be the basis for a settlement.
The meeting of the leaders of the United States and Russia took place on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that the dialogue between the Russian and American leaders was positive and constructive.
