Employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia stopped an attempt by the Ukrainian special services to carry out a new attack on the Crimean Bridge using a car packed with explosives. This was announced on August 18 by the department's Public Relations Center.

The car, which contained a high-power improvised explosive device, arrived in Russia from Ukraine, having passed through a number of countries. The car crossed the border of Russia with Georgia at the Verkhny Lars checkpoint in North Ossetia, after which it was supposed to travel to the Krasnodar Territory on a car carrier operated by a private carrier driver.

"Subsequently, it was planned to transfer it to another driver, who was supposed to drive it to the Republic of Crimea through the Crimean Bridge and become an unwitting suicide bomber, whom the Kiev regime planned to use 'in the dark,'" the press release said.

FSB officers promptly uncovered the terrorists' plans, defused an explosive device in a Chevrolet Volt car and detained all those involved in its presence in Russia. A criminal case has been opened.

It is noted that this is not the first attempt by Ukraine to commit a terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge this year. Another car traveling to sabotage the Crimean Bridge was detained on the border of Belarus and Poland in April this year. The minibus was detained by Belarusian security forces, with more than half a ton of synthetic explosives inside.

In July, Alexander Bastrykin, chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, announced that five citizens of Ukraine and Georgia, who became defendants in the criminal case of the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge in 2022, were wanted, and all men were charged in absentia. He pointed out that the terrorist attack was prepared and organized by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) under the leadership of Chairman Vasyl Malyuk (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist). The criminal group of perpetrators was formed abroad.

The explosion, which occurred on October 8, 2022, claimed the lives of a transport driver and four other people in a passenger car.
