The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union (EU), which includes the ambassadors of 27 countries, has convened an emergency meeting in Brussels to discuss the results of the Russia-US summit in Alaska. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 16, citing two European diplomats.

"An extraordinary meeting of the ambassadors of all 27 member states was convened on Saturday morning to discuss the bloc's next steps," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the EU ambassadors were offered to meet in a "limited format", without assistants and telephones. It is specified that this is done in order to minimize the risk of information leakage.

The European Commission (EC) announced on the afternoon of August 16 that US President Donald Trump had informed European leaders about the results of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. EC President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte participated in the conversation with the American leader.

Later, Trump said that his meeting with his Russian counterpart went very well. In addition, Trump called the Russia-US summit in Alaska "wonderful" and added that the meeting was "extremely successful."
